RESULTS: Seven of our athletes travelled to
Nenagh for the Junior Indoor Championships on the 24th January. In the Junior Men's 60m Hurdles Maurice
O’Connor came 5th with a time of 9.04s. Cian Foley competed in the
Junior Men's 60 m (7.37s) and in the 200m (23.77s). Paudie Whelan also competed
in the 200m (24.56s) and in the Junior Men's 400m (53.66s). Michael Godley
contested the Junior Men's Triple Jump (11.35m). In the Junior Women's 60 m Dearbhail
Foley recorded a time of 8.44s and jumped 8.93m in a Junior Women's Triple Jump
that saw Sinead O’Connor take a bronze medal for a jump of 9.99m. In the
women's shot putt competition Claire Fitzgerald took gold for a throw of
12.87m. Congratulations to Sinead and Claire on their great achievements. The AAI Indoor Games were held in Nenagh on the 25th January. Well done to Claire
Fitzgerald who took gold for a throw of 13.16m, recording a p.b. in the
process, in the women's shot putt competition. Congratulations is also due to Stephen
Griffin who won the O/50 section in a 10-mile road race in Dungarvan in a time
of 56.47s. Stephen came 13th overall. This follows Stephens win in
the Mallow 10 mile race in January also. REGISTRATION: Registration of all athletes must be done as soon as
possible. New athletes must give a copy of their birth certificate to Registrar
Marie O’Connor. The annual membership cost is as follows: Family membership
€120; Individual juvenile membership €50; Individual Senior athlete €75; Senior
Citizens €50; Fit for Life €25, Coaches and Committee members €20. All athletes
wishing to compete in any of the up and coming competitions will need to be
registered immediately. Individual insurance is also covered in the
registration fee and an athlete can only train for 2 sessions without insurance
cover. Any athlete who is not registered beyond the 2 sessions will be asked to
sit out training. Registrations can be paid at any of the training sessions.
FIT4LIFE:
The running league continues on Friday evening at 6.30pm from the O’Donnell’s,
Mounthawk and Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm from St. Brendan’s Church. This
league is primarily geared towards the casual runner/walker and is intended to
be a mass participation event for all standards of athlete. A number of our
runners have taken part in 10k and half marathons already and a number of road
races are planned for the season. All newcomers are welcome. For information please contact Jerry O’Sullivan
at 085-1085735. TRAINING: Indoor training
U9-U12 at 6.30pm to 7.30pm & U13-U20 7.30pm to 9pm in the Green School on
Tuesdays. Outdoor training on Thursdays from 7pm to 8.30pm in the ITT. Weights
training on Fridays at 6.30pm for selected athletes. Outdoor training on
Saturdays at 3pm to 5pm in An Riocht, Castleisland. We would ask athletes to
try to attend at least 2 sessions per week as preparations are well underway
for the indoor season in February. The Munster juvenile indoor competition
ranges in age from U9 to U19. FIXTURES: Munster Juvenile
