Club Notes 30/6/08

RESULTS: The Tailteann Games and National Juniors were down for decision at the weekend and as usual the club did exceedingly well. Leading the charge over the two days was Claire Fitzgerald who won the Shot (12.26), Discus (38.91) and Javelin (36.85) on Saturday at the Tailteanns and the Shot (12.69) and Discus (38.78) on Sunday at the Juniors. She was best female athlete at the Tailteanns again this year and this despite a hip injury. Ciara Walsh was our only other athlete at the Tailteanns who came in 4th spot in the High Jump with 1.55m. On Sunday Alan O’Connor was in very good form winning the shot (12.18), second in the 35lbs for distance and third in the discus in the U23 category. His sister Karen also took third in the discus in the Junior Women with a throw of 29.90m. Patrick Phelan ran a 10.94s 100m to come home in fifth place in the U23 men while David Boyd ran 11.94s to come eight in the Junior Men. Patrick, David, Alan and Dara O'Carroll teamed up together to win the U23 relay.
Attention now turns to Antrim at the weekend to the National Juveniles and we wish all the best to the athletes traveling at the weekend.

TRAINING: Training for all U9-19s: Tuesday 7pm at ITT, Thursday 7pm at An Riocht. Even though the season is winding down for most, we would encourage all to keep attending training over the coming weeks. We are currently introducing new events to athletes especially in the U11 to U14 category over the coming weeks while the pressure is off from competition. Hurdles, javelin, high and long jump and shot were the events introduced over the last couple of weeks and we hope to expand that out over the coming weeks. Also we are putting together teams for the clubs relays in July from ages U13 to U19. We will only enter teams that are consistently training and qualification from the recent Munster is not a prerequisite to entering in the Nationals.

RUNNING LEAGUE (Fit4Life): The running league continues on Friday evening at 6.30pm from the Aquadome and Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm from St. Brendan’s Church. This league is primarily geared towards the casual runner/walker and is intended to be a mass participation event for all standards of athlete. All newcomers are welcome.

CLUB E-MAIL: The club has set-up an e-mail system so athletes and members can receive regular updates by e-mail. Athletes and members can register their e-mail address via the website at www.traleeharriers.com.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION: Thanks to all Tralee Harriers members who helped collect at St. Johns Church on Sat/Sun.  Your help was much appreciated.
