Club Notes 14/4/08

RESULTS: There was a positive note to end the indoor season in Nenagh this weekend with more great performances from our athletes. The club had two athletes in the high jump competition, an event that is reaching an extraordinarily high status in Ireland with some great performances recorded nationally and our athletes potential is recognised in this regard too. The U18 boys high jump was won by Andrew Kearney with a fantastic jump of 1.88m. Andrew is a tremendous athlete who is going from strenght to strenght again this year. Danny O’Connor also competed in the U17 boy’s high jump, coming in 7th place with a jump of 1.65m, considerably off his personal best of 1.80m which won him the gold medal at provincial level. A knee injury has curtailed training for this athlete, but the club is sure he will perform for the outdoor season. The U14 boys relay had great reason to celebrate at the weekend taking home the gold medal in a fast and challenging 4 X 200m relay. This team ran together for the first time at the Munster indoor championships where they also took gold. The team consisted of Brian Barry, a fantastic new comer who is a great addition to the club, Eoin O’Carroll whose total medal haul of 3 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze at national level this year speaks for itself, Danny Pierce, a multi-talented performer and Munster championship medal winner this year and Ger Browne, a dedicated U13 athlete who ran out of age and put in a tremendous performance to finish the race and ensure victory for the team. Well done to all four boys on a teriffic achievement!

The indoor season has finally drawn to a close with a successful medal haul and great performances recorded by our athletes. In summary the club athletes from juvenile, junior, senior and master levels won 78 medals in all since the start of the year, 16 gold, 24 silver and 10 bronze medals at Munster level, 12 gold, 9 silver and 2 bronze medals at National level, 1 gold and 2 silver AAI indoor games medals, 1 silver Celtic International medal, 1 silver AAA medal and 1 championship best recorded at Munster. This has been a remarkable season for the club. A sincere thanks to all the coaches who selflessly give of their time, to the club officers whose work is rarely seen but is what keeps the club afloat, to the parents who attend competition to support their children and other club members and lastly, but most importantly, to all of the fantastic athletes who make the club what it is. A new outdoor season is approaching with opportunities for all. Back to training and best of luck for a successful and enjoyable season.
