Club Notes 6/8/07

RESULTS: The Munster Juvenile U9-U12, Celtic Games and Juvenile Pentathlons were down for decision at the weekend. Claire Fitzgerald, representing Ireland in the U18 age group, took gold in the discus at the Celtic Games with a throw of 37.12m with over 2m to spare over her nearest rival. She now has the hard choice of deciding to compete in the AAA or to rest her recent hand injury. At the National Multi Events Danny O’Connor and Sinead O’Connor came in fourth and sixth respectively. Danny stats of 16.5s hurdles, 1.54 HJ, 5.07 LJ, 8.46 shot, and 2.26.3 800m gave him a total of 2775 points, only 150 points off a medal place. Sinead’s figures of 15.4s hurdles, 1.38m HJ, 4.70m LJ, 5.68m shot, 2.44.9 for the 800m gave her a total of 2185 points. At the Munsters, The Ryan sisters and Brian Kennedy were our only representatives making the long journey to Waterford at the end of a long season. Rebecca narrowly missed out in the LJ coming fourth with a jump of 2.96 while Courtney made the semi finals of the sprints and jumped 3.16m in long jump. Brian, also making his debut with Rebecca at a Munsters did well in the 60m.

TRAINING: Training for all juveniles is now finished and all athletes will be taking a well deserved break. Winter training will start for juveniles in October. Masters/Seniors circuit training will start again in late September and we hope to start our running league again in September. Exact details will be posted here or on the website. The planning for next season will be starting in the background over the coming weeks, with various training plans being put in place for the whole season. There will also be a number of coaching courses especially in the Autumn/Winter. As usual we would request any parent or athlete wishing to get involved in coaching in some capacity to make this known to the club officers or coaches.
