Notes 4/6/07 RESULTS: An Riocht club had their open sports on Wednesday night and the weather brightened up to give a great night of athletics. The club had a large turnout of the younger ages with the older ages in the throes of the end of year exams. Louise O Connor was one of our strong performers on the night winning gold in the U13 hurdles, sprint, high jump and 600m. Eoin O Carroll was also to the fore winning the hurdles, narrowly pipped for second in the 100m, and coming third in the 600m. His sister Aoife was also in fine form, winning the sprint and coming second in the long jump. In the Junior 100m David Boyd and Cian Foley claimed first and second respectively while Jamie Byrne won the U16 100m easily. In the junior 1500m Aisling NiNuallain claimed gold and in the GU16 Clionadh O’Connor was second in her 100m. Laura Lynch, on her first outing this year won the U14 100m. In the U9 girls newcomers Rachael Bowler and Emma McCarthy won silver and bronze respectively. In the GU11 Clara Heinrich won silver in the sprint while the club had a one-two-three in the 300m with Courtney Ryan, Clara Heinrich, and Grace Hickie. In the BU11 Diarmaid O Sullivan was our dominant athlete on the night winning the sprint and coming second the 300m. Brian Kennedy won the BU9 sprint. Finally in the individual events Kate Boyd’s hard work on the javelin paid dividends when she won that event in fine style with a throw of over 17m. In the relays we claimed two medals in the U10 relay with our U10 team of Jenny Godley, Aoibheann O Brien, Doireann Morgan, and Aoife O’Carroll winning in fine style while our U9 girls team of Rachael Bowler, Rebecca Ryan, Eimear Brosnan, and Emma McCarthy put in a strong performance to take third place, narrowly missing out on second. In the BU12 our U11 team of Donna O’Buachalla, Michael O’Donnell, Sean Fitzmaurice and Diarmaid O’Sullivan stepped an age to take second. In the GU14 Hanna Ryan, Louise O’Connor, Hazel Carmody and Laura Lynch came home in second spot, narrowly missing out on first spot. In the BU14 our U13 team of Brian Hill, Shane O’Sullivan, Feargal O‘Nuaillain and Eoin O’Carroll won easily. In the medley relay, Louise O’Connor, David Boyd, Ben McGilton and Aisling NiNuallain came home in the second spot. Carry over results and corrections to last Munster Masters include Neilus Daly coming home third in the high jump, and Martin McDonagh winning the javelin, shot and weight for distance and coming second in the discus. TRAINING: Juvenile training takes place on Tuesdays at 7pm in the ITT, Thursdays in Castleisland at 7pm and the ITT again on Saturdays at 11am. EVENTS: Munster Juvenile U9-U14 T&F Championships June 9th/10th in Castleisland, Munster Senior T&F in Cork on Sunday 17th June at 11am, Kerry Community Games 16th/17th June in Castleisland. MISCELLANEOUS: The county board church collection takes place on the weekend of the 23rd/24th of June and any volunteers should contact the treasurer. |
