Club Notes 9/2/06

Claire Fitzgerald goes to Ennis on Saturday to pick up a Munster Star award for her achievements in 2005 and she may well repeat the feat this year if she maintains her relentless good form in the throwing events. She kicked off her season with a gold at the Scottish Indoors last Saturday with a throw of 11.64m in the shot. Her season will start to crank up in earnest over the coming weeks for the juvenile indoor competitions and everyone will agree she is looking forward to another very good season ahead.

An introduction to athletics day will take place in Castleisland on Saturday February 11th at 11am for 10 to 14 year olds. The main focus of the day is to introduce new events to young athletes such as shot, hurdles, long jump and high jump. The club would like to encourage all of our athletes between the ages specified to attend on the day. On that day also a Munster Elite throws clinic will take place also at 11am. The Indoor B Championships takes place in the Green hall on Saturday March 4th for athletes who did not win a medal at the county championships last year. The Munster Juvenile U10-U13 Indoors take place on Sat 18th/Sun 19th while the Munster Juvenile U14-U19 Indoors take place on Sat 25th/Sun 26th of February. Timetable of events available on the website.

Indoor training for the younger ages (U9-U11) takes place in the Green school from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. All new athletes are welcome and registrations will also be taken at the hall. Circuit training for juvenile athletes (U12-U19) continues at 4.30pm in the Green school hall with outdoor training in Na Gaeil pitch on Tuesday at 7pm and at An Riocht track on Thursday at 7pm. Masters circuit training takes place on Mondays at 8pm at the KDYS hall. We would ask all athletes to register as soon as possible with the club registrar.
